AIS - The Cyre Job
At the shadow carnival, they told Crawgle he was hatched from an egg the ringmaster had purchased from a traveling Talenta Halfling. Crawgle knew that his kind, the Kenku, were rare in this part of the world. From the two or three other Kenku that he had seen or met, he knew that he didn’t (or wouldn’t) fit in with even them. Crawgle was more “grackle-like” than the other Kenku, whose appearance was more like the usual battlefield-scavenging crow.
His life in the Circus was fine- Crawgle knew that his acts of acrobatics, wire walking, and knife throwing skills made the business money, but he never made a connection with the other performers. On the night of his 15th Hatchday, he slipped off into the night- drawn by the stories of Sharn. It was easy enough to slip onto a Sharn bound lightning rail without a ticket. Crawgle wasn’t a smart bird/man, but he knew how to make up stories. He knew how to tell people what they wanted to hear. Plus, humans and other demihumans seemed fascinated by his bright eyes somehow, so that helped to get what he wanted.
In Sharn, Crawgle found people a little more accepting. Some folks in the city were way worse than those he had seen in the traveling life, however. Crawgle settled down in one neighborhood and started helping out folks being bullied by those who were bigger, stronger.
Old Man Arrynt noticed his abilities one night and offered him some work. After several collaborative jobs, he felt a strange sort of kinship to his co-workers, and even came to think of them as his Flock.
Now Old Man Arrynt was gone. What was it about the Cyre job that sent him over the edge?
